Was browsing party photos on Style.com today, and spotted this refreshingly different look on Amanda Brooks (left). Love the knee-high stockings, they are the perfect touch. Lately the party pages seem to be a bland room full of short cocktail dresses. This is finally something worth blogging about.

Ooh la la! Lingerie Exposé!

From the runways to real life, the trend of wearing (or exposing) one's lingerie on the outside instead of the inside has been exploding. From a hint of a black lace bra under an open white button-down shirt, to garter belts and thigh-high hosiery, celebrities and fashion people alike have adapted the runway looks to their own looks.

Though it can be risque if worn incorrectly (although "incorrectly" is highly subjective), I am a little bit in love with the lingerie trend. I have a weakness for all things girly, so a hint of a lace bra, a silk camisole, slip, or sexy hosiery can balance out an androgynous look quite nicely. I emphasize wearing a somewhat androgynous look to keep it a little cheeky, and to avoid going overboard with this trend. Because when your bra is showing, you really cannot take yourself too seriously.

It Gets Better with Age: Classic Handbags

It occurred to me one day when a woman came up to me and told me she loved my handbag, was it vintage? At first I laughed and told her no, it only looked that way because I carried it with me 24/7. But it made me think - up until that point I only saw the bag as worn out and in need of replacing. Perhaps, however, its beauty was in the eye of the beholder: one woman's worn out is another woman's vintage.

And so I started observing the bags on those around me; while most had that shiny, new appearance, I spotted a few (among them a fantastically worn out, faded black YSL Muse) that were worn enough to attain a much coveted patina. It was beautiful.

Maybe it's the recession in me that won't mind when my YSL or Chanel ages a few years, or maybe it's just because fashion is in a Balmainesque, ripped up and studded out phase. Or maybe it's just a rebellion against the plastic, knock-offy, "it bag" look of new handbags. Or maybe a classic handbag is like a fine wine, only getting better with age.

Whether you're like me and have a weakness for all things nautical or not, nautical stripes in all its variations is an essential foundation in ones wardrobe due to its timelessness as well as its ability to look great in many combinations of pieces. I have versions in dresses, tanks, and tees and find myself wearing them season after season whether its summer or winter. Here are some of my favorite versions. English import Alexa Chung is a welcome addition to the throngs of American fashionistas...well, actually, she stands out from the throngs, she is a leader. A former model, it's no wonder she looks so stunning in practically anything she puts on, from a periwinkle blue cocktail dress to a cutoff jean shorts and ankle booties (sooo off-duty model style, btw). Loooove!

When I read in nymag's blog The Cut that Carli Bruni is not the most stylish Parsienne, I was not surprised - she plays it waaaay too safe...and too ladylike for fashion's current slutty/grungy/off-duty-model vibe. The winner in french newspaper Le Figaro's poll is none other than Inés de la Fressange. Here's to proof that style is timeless...not to mention ageless. She's 52 years old and rocking it.

My kind of girl.
