Ooh la la! Lingerie Exposé!

From the runways to real life, the trend of wearing (or exposing) one's lingerie on the outside instead of the inside has been exploding. From a hint of a black lace bra under an open white button-down shirt, to garter belts and thigh-high hosiery, celebrities and fashion people alike have adapted the runway looks to their own looks.

Though it can be risque if worn incorrectly (although "incorrectly" is highly subjective), I am a little bit in love with the lingerie trend. I have a weakness for all things girly, so a hint of a lace bra, a silk camisole, slip, or sexy hosiery can balance out an androgynous look quite nicely. I emphasize wearing a somewhat androgynous look to keep it a little cheeky, and to avoid going overboard with this trend. Because when your bra is showing, you really cannot take yourself too seriously.

The finishing touch on your fall outerwear, leather gloves are both functional, and a more stylish alternative to knit (yes, even if they're cashmere). My favorites this season are short, fingerless driving gloves for day (makes it soooo easy to grab my morning coffee or dig my iphone out of my handbag while on the go), or long, dramatic styles with special details like fringes and zippers. I saw the Ann Taylor grey suede version in the store and they are perfect, and also some fabulous pairs of driving gloves at Club Monaco in various colors and even faux snakeskin.

I'm afraid I feel a new addiction coming on, but like the ladies of Ab Fab always said, "you can never have enough hats, gloves, and shoes." Agreed.

Chilly times are on their way, and I can't think of a better way to face them than with a wear-with-all fur vest. In faux or la verité, and either is acceptable these days, this piece can go day or night (I am dying for a black fox fur vest for night), and with anything from jeans and a tee to a dress, shown above. In browns and sables they can go bohemian, but in luxurious greys and blacks, a fur vest can be very elegant. It's truly a piece that can work for anyone on any budget.

Thoughts on New York Fashion Week Style: The Shoes

Though I can't say I've always been, lately I've been becoming more and more of a shoe girl. Although my collection is starting to outnumber the outfits in my closet with which to wear them, too many is never...well, let's just say Imelda Marcos had it coming to her.

So during New York Fashion week I made sure to take a few pics of the interesting, quirky, or just plain fabulous shoes found on the ladies in the tents. Here are a few of them below:

Lavender and grey add an element of softness to a heavy, geometric style heel

These suede boots have the perfect amount of slouch. Would be awesome with a floral print dress! Very boho luxe.

Love the pearly finish of these shoes. The platform is also that perfect height, making it easier to walk in heels while still adding a good extra inch of height.

Funky, bright, and chunky. A throwback to the disco days if I've ever seen one.

Simple wedge + 13 straps = perfect amount of drama to make the shoe interesting

Every wardrobe needs at least one leopard print item. And these shoes would be a great place to start.

This is as fashion-week as rainboots can get. I always love a style risk taker, and this woman was one of them.

The Spring 2010 Runways: A Case of the Blues?

They say the fashion world lives in a bubble, oblivious to the ups and downs of the economy, engrossed in their own glamorous world of tailoring, draping, and setting that perfect sleeve, driven by the sheer desire to produce sartorial works of art. Yet after reviewing look after look of the Spring 2010 collections at New York Fashion Week, I've begun to wonder: do the designers have a case of the blues from the recession? Did they choose shades of baby blue, ocean blue, and aqua to reflect the mood of the times? Or maybe it was all a coincidence. Either way, I'm glad to see some baby blue back in fashion, since it seems like it was a long time coming for this color.

Leggings are the biggest statement for fall in pants. They are a favorite of mine, since they can be dressed up or down, are super comfy, and make legs look sky high with heels, I am stocking up in leggings of several varieties, I seriously cannot stop buying them in all styles. These are photos of my favorites - leather, ripped, equestrian, and denim. They range from super affordable for denim leggings at Aldo for $20, to super pricey for leather leggings for upwards of $1000. I want them all!

As much as I would love to enjoy the remaining summer months in my Lilly Pulitzer sundress and J-Ro's, I can't help but become absolutely obsessed with all of the grungy fabulous things coming out for fall. Not only I am coveting one of Alexander Wang's loose pocket tees, or some J Brand distressed and bleached denim, but I am absolutely smitten with fall's distressed boots. Case in point: short cowboy booties. I was first faced with the indisputable chicness of the Frye short version in grey (also comes in brown and black), which is a perfectly worn-in grey color. Then I came upon the even more authentically distressed Golden Goose version, which is sublime if you want to look like you've owned them for the last ten years, and didn't just jump on the trend bandwagon when they got cool.

So if you see a girl with her skinny jeans, Wang tee and other distressed fall necessaries in the middle of August, you might just know that it's me you've spotted. Sorry summer wardrobe, but I'm so over you.

In addition to the plethora of velvet and lace, model after model waltzed down the Fall 2009 Couture runways baring not only the couture, but hints of what lies beneath in sheer ivory, beige, and black fabrics. While designers played it safe with color during a recession year (with poor Christian LaCroix hanging on by literally just a thread), they went racy with sexy references from lingerie (Christian Dior) to the not-so-innocent litle girl dress tied in a prim black bow (Alexis Mabille), to the all-out dominatrix variety (Jean Paul Gaultier).

Call it sheer bliss, or call it sheer genius. Whatever you call it, take the trend as a cue and layer that sexy sheer chiffon blouse under your boyfriend blazer this fall. And as John Galliano might add, don't forget your underpinnings.
