Gloves: The Long & Short of it

Sep23
The finishing touch on your fall outerwear, leather gloves are both functional, and a more stylish alternative to knit (yes, even if they're cashmere). My favorites this season are short, fingerless driving gloves for day (makes it soooo easy to grab my morning coffee or dig my iphone out of my handbag while on the go), or long, dramatic styles with special details like fringes and zippers. I saw the Ann Taylor grey suede version in the store and they are perfect, and also some fabulous pairs of driving gloves at Club Monaco in various colors and even faux snakeskin.

I'm afraid I feel a new addiction coming on, but like the ladies of Ab Fab always said, "you can never have enough hats, gloves, and shoes." Agreed.

So Hot for a Chilly Day: The Fur Vest (& how to wear it)

Sep23
Chilly times are on their way, and I can't think of a better way to face them than with a wear-with-all fur vest. In faux or la verité, and either is acceptable these days, this piece can go day or night (I am dying for a black fox fur vest for night), and with anything from jeans and a tee to a dress, shown above. In browns and sables they can go bohemian, but in luxurious greys and blacks, a fur vest can be very elegant. It's truly a piece that can work for anyone on any budget.

Five Trends from the Spring 2010 Runways...

Sep23

...that I can't wait to translate into my own wardrobe. Whether they are fresh takes on trends from fall (the evolution of the leggings, case in point Marc Jacobs), or something new and different altogether, these five looks caught my eye as distinctively stylish, not to mention wearable in one's own way come spring.

1. Sheer Leggings

2. Banding

3. Baby Blue

4. Asymetrical necklines

5. Cutouts

Marc Jacobs - Runway - Spring 2010 MBFW

1. Sheer leggings at Marc Jacobs. The bridge between hosiery and leggings, brilliant.

Michael Kors - Runway - Spring 2010 MBFW

2. Asymetrical banding at Michael Kors. Sexy and new, although slightly reminiscent of Alexander Wangs fall 2009 dresses...

BCBG Max Azria - Runway - Spring 2010 MBFW

2. More banding at BCBG

Ralph Lauren - Runway - Spring 2010 MBFW

3. The return of baby blue. Although pastels like mint, petal, and pale yellow have been popular in past spring seasons, pale blue has been strangely missing - until now. All those with blue eyes take note, this tone will really highlight them.

Preen By Thornton Bregazzi - Runway - Spring 2010 MBFW

3. Asymetry at the shoulder at Preen.

Jill Stuart - Runway - Spring 2010 MBFW

3. And another asymetrical neckline at Jill Stuart.

Michael Kors - Runway - Spring 2010 MBFW

5. And some cutout panels at Michael Kors.

Thoughts on NYFW Style: In the Tents II

Sep18

So since I found more street style than I could fit in one post alone while in the tents, I had to add one last post for New York Fashion Week street style. Wish I was off to London to find some great British street style, but maybe next season... Anyway, for the time being, enjoy the fashionistas of NYC!

There's nothing I love more right now than off-duty model style, and she epitomizes the look.

Normally I would find it risqué to bare one's midriff, but she makes it chic and classy.

I love the way her thigh-high boots overlap the longer, sheer dress. The two pieces balance each other quite well.

Slouchy, yet tailored. And a nice mix of textures.

Love the leopard boots so much I added them to my shoe post too!

Favorite Look: Tibi Spring 2010

Sep16

I had the pleasure of attending the Tibi show on Tuesday, and while I found the collection overall lighthearted, colorful, and a little garden party, all in a good way, I absolutely fell IN LOVE with a few styles near the end with large floral clusters at the shoulders, chest, or all over on a pair of shorts. But if I had to pick a favorite, it would be this navy one-shouldered number shown below. Flipping fabulous!

Aside from the clothes themselves, I loved the Monet-inspired backdrop. It really tied together such a varied color palette and reinforced my garden party conclusion of the collection. I would love to wear one of these pieces to an elegant outdoor affair. Anyone want to throw a Tibi soirée in a garden in spring 2010? If not, I just might have to crash the butterfly room at the Museum of Natural History one night to find an appropriate backdrop for these clothes! (jk of course!)

Thoughts on New York Fashion Week Style: The Shoes

Sep16

Though I can't say I've always been, lately I've been becoming more and more of a shoe girl. Although my collection is starting to outnumber the outfits in my closet with which to wear them, too many is never...well, let's just say Imelda Marcos had it coming to her.

So during New York Fashion week I made sure to take a few pics of the interesting, quirky, or just plain fabulous shoes found on the ladies in the tents. Here are a few of them below:

Lavender and grey add an element of softness to a heavy, geometric style heel

These suede boots have the perfect amount of slouch. Would be awesome with a floral print dress! Very boho luxe.

Love the pearly finish of these shoes. The platform is also that perfect height, making it easier to walk in heels while still adding a good extra inch of height.

Funky, bright, and chunky. A throwback to the disco days if I've ever seen one.

Simple wedge + 13 straps = perfect amount of drama to make the shoe interesting

Every wardrobe needs at least one leopard print item. And these shoes would be a great place to start.

This is as fashion-week as rainboots can get. I always love a style risk taker, and this woman was one of them.

The Spring 2010 Runways: A Case of the Blues?

Sep15

They say the fashion world lives in a bubble, oblivious to the ups and downs of the economy, engrossed in their own glamorous world of tailoring, draping, and setting that perfect sleeve, driven by the sheer desire to produce sartorial works of art. Yet after reviewing look after look of the Spring 2010 collections at New York Fashion Week, I've begun to wonder: do the designers have a case of the blues from the recession? Did they choose shades of baby blue, ocean blue, and aqua to reflect the mood of the times? Or maybe it was all a coincidence. Either way, I'm glad to see some baby blue back in fashion, since it seems like it was a long time coming for this color.

Spotted: Celebs at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, headed to the Hervé Léger show

Sep14

Took a break outside the backstage entrance to the tents at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week today, and spotted several celebs headed into the Spring 2010 Hervé Léger by Max Azria show. Everyone was looking fab, keeping their looks simple wearing dresses by the designer himself and not much else!

Hilary Duff (love her Goyard clutch!)

Leigh Lezark of the Misshapes

Victoria's Secret model Marissa Miller

Amanda Bynes stops for a pic before heading into the backstage entrance

Mischa Barton looking sultry in all black deep v-neck dress by the designer

Thoughts on New York Fashion Week Style: In the Tents

Sep13

Spotted some great style in the tents after the Hervé Léger show today at Bryant Park. Check out the pics!

Check out the draping detail at the front of the skirt. The way it drapes into a bow is some kind of wonderful.

Love the mirrored pailletes on her dress! So glam.

Both of these ladies look amazing! Loving the leather shorts and denim vest over the dress.

She looks killer

The back of this dress is stunning. And look at her shoes!

The necklace, the jacket, the bag, the shoes, all fabulous. And she had the most lovely shade of red hair which contrasted nicely with the shade of blue in the jacket.

I want her feather vest!!!

She wears vintage, and she wears it well. I am a big fan of her belted jacket.

Thoughts on New York Fashion Week Style: On the Street & in the Tents at Bryant Park

Sep13

While running in and out of the tents at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, I've been checking out the style not found on the runways, and have had some impressive sightings of those with great street style. And what are my thoughts on NYFW street style? I am loving lots of platform heels, touches of leather, key accessories, cropped harem pants with heels, and skinny pants all around. Check out the photos below!

P.S. Stay tuned for more photos to come of Fashion Week street style, as well as the celebrities and models at New York Fashion Week.

Love the bowtie and touch of fuschia in the handbag.

Vintage lace beauty and tailored dandy add a touch of drama with red lips, and a red scarf and pocket square.

Pinks and purples are anchored nicely with a black and grey. And I love the tie-dyed denim!

She paired a statement headband with a chic black dress.

The cut of this coat is simple and refined.

I love the way she mixes sparkle and leather. The two textures work very well together.

A floral, an animal print, and the perfect round sunglasses complete the look. Also loving the lace-up heels.
